James Y.
software engineer
I first got interested in programming at university. I was studying maths and towards the end of time there I started to get an interest in modelling some of things I was working on. I learned some basic Java to help investigate one of my projects and really enjoyed the process. At this point I was looking for jobs and decided I liked it enough to take a software job.
I started as a software consultant and spent some time working in various industries around the country, including finance and insurance. Eventually I saw a job advert for Derivation at Linedata. They were talking about some interesting
technologies and spoke about mathematical modelling which suited my experience. Since I had already worked in a similar area and it sounded like fun, it seemed like a good choice for me. So really it felt like a very natural progression ending up in this industry.
